Dr. Potthoff is a native of Scottsdale, Arizona but his family moved to Whitefish when he was in high school. He graduated from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 1995, and initially set up his practice in Scottsdale. He and his wife later decided that the best place to raise their children was the Flathead Valley. They relocated here in 1999, which also kept their children close to their grandmother. Dr. Potthoff has been practicing in Kalispell ever since.
When he isn’t busy caring for his patients, Dr. Potthoff takes advantage of the natural beauty of the Flathead Valley. He and his wife Julie enjoy a healthy lifestyle that includes hiking, fishing, biking, and skiing. You may also find Dr. Potthoff out on a local golf course or tennis court. He treasures family time and virtually anything that involves the outdoors, especially on sunny days!
In addition to his busy practice and personal life, Dr. Potthoff engages in at least one hundred hours of continuing education every year. He studies implant technology under Dr. Arun Garg, DMD, and is a diplomat of the International Dental Implant Association. He provides the latest technological advances to his patients. He also is involved in dental mission work in the Dominican Republic.
Dr. Potthoff carries his passion for healthy living to his practice. At Potthoff Dentistry, patients receive more than just a standard check-up. Dr. Potthoff and his staff provide comprehensive dental health care and educate patients on whole-body wellness. His goal is that patients know and understand overall health along with dental health, promoting what he calls a “high dental IQ” patient.
Originally from Tennessee, Dr. Timothy Mathews went West to attend Loma Linda School of Dentistry where he graduated in 2013. Directly out of dental school Dr. Tim traveled North to Alaska where he lived and practiced dentistry for almost 9 years. Wishing to be closer to family and have longer, warmer summers, Dr. Tim, his wife, two girls, and two big dogs decided to move back to the lower forty-eight and call Kalispell Montana their permanent home.
Outside of the dental office, Dr. Tim and his family immensely enjoy the outdoor lifestyle. Whether it is figuring out how to fit 2 adults, 2 children, and 2 dogs in a 17-foot canoe without tipping over, or cramming them all into a truck for a road trip to explore the National Park, to camping in a roof-top tent in an obscure location; if it can be done outdoors they most likely would like to try it. One of Dr. Tim’s biggest hobbies that fits right in, is his passion for photography and flying drones which usually end up on Instagram on @timthetoothninja.
It is very important to Dr. Tim to stay current with the latest in dentistry, taking care to learn and engage with the ever changing dental field. Dr. Tim’s training is not limited to and includes digital dentistry, Invisalign, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Oral Surgery and Implantology. He values not just treating someone, but teaching and helping them understand a comprehensive view of their oral health. He understands the impact good dental health can have in someone’s life and loves to give back to the local community as well as world-wide. Dr. Tim has been adjunct faculty at Loma Linda School of Dentistry where he has participated in and taught dental students on service/mission trips including places like Bangladesh, Honduras, Palau, and the Caribbean
